Ward, Peirce and Religion
Roger Ward’s Peirce and Religion is a provocative challenge to much of the conventional wisdom about Peirce’s life and work. Ward argues in his book that the significance of Peirce’s Christian faith has been almost entirely overlooked. By delving into the specifics of his understanding and experience of Christianity, Ward fleshes out Peirce’s philosophical program and shows what a vital component religion is in it. That his religious beliefs ultimately prove inseparable from his dogged inquiry into the nature of science and logic also shows the continuing relevance of Peirce’s philosophy today amidst perennial debates about the proper relation of philosophy, science, and religion. An Author Meets Critics panel on Ward’s Peirce and Religion at the 47th meeting of SAAP presents a unique opportunity to reach an international audience with new insights into the person and philosophy of C.S. Peirce.
